Tips and Guidelines
The Frontier Awards were instigated to raise the standards of retailing and the quality of products in travel-retail. They have occupied a special place at the heart of the industry for over two decades, and the number - and professionalism - of entries has increased every year.
Tips from the Judges
- The entries that stand out combine concise information with clear pictures. They want to hear what you have done, and get a good look at it too.
- Start with a covering letter introducing your entry. This will allow the judges to immediately establish who you are and what you have done.
- Make sure that your numbers speak for themselves - back up your arguments with those all-important figures.
- Make your key points as clearly as possible.
- Focus on the key strategies, objectives and achievements. Sometimes bullet points can be the best way to get across a lot of information with maximum impact.
- The judges have many entries to pore over - ensure that yours stands out from the crowd.
- Have your clients, contacts or partners been praising your achievements? The judges will be impressed by relevant and succinct testimonies from outside parties.
- Include some background information on your company.
- Provide a selection of quality
photographs or a CD with electronic images from a digital camera. Letting the judges see your achievements with their own eyes could make all the
difference. High-quality pictures are also important because all entries will be documented and published - with visual
representations - in the October issue of Frontier magazine.
- Please do not send videos or DVDs. These will not be submitted to the judges because we cannot ensure that such media will be compatible with equipment used by judges from all corners of the globe.
Guidelines
- The more detailed your entry the better - ideally it will be illustrated with facts, figures, turnover and customer profiles. Provide hard facts and figures to back up your claims.
- Colour photographs or high resolution electronic images are vital for all entries.
- The Star Product entry should be supported by samples of the product in question - see entry form for posting instructions.
- For all category entries please supply seven copies of your entry, including photographs, supporting materials and products (where applicable).
Important
- All entries must be written. Please do not send videos or DVDs - these will not be accepted as part of an Awards entry, and will not be forwarded to the judges. Differences in regional compatibility and the time-consuming nature of such presentations mean they are to be avoided.
- The Frontier Awards are for retailers and suppliers involved directly in travel-retail who fall within one or more of the specified categories.
- A single entry may be submitted by individuals or companies in more than one category provided that each is accompanied by a fully completed entry form in duplicate. Photocopies of the entry form can be used.
- Individuals or companies are eligible to enter a maximum of three categories only.
- Entries should be informative but concise: no more than 1,000 words in total.
- All entries must be submitted in English.
- Entries which do not conform to the above criteria will NOT be forwarded to the judges.
- No fee is charged to enter the Frontier Awards but all shipping and customs costs must be paid for by the Awards entrants themselves. If there is any surcharge to be paid the entrant will be invoiced accordingly.
Judging Criteria
- An impartial panel of judges will review all entries. Awards will be made solely at the discretion of the judges. They will base their decision on:
- Innovation and originality
- Creative concept and execution
- Business acumen and results
- Perceived effectiveness in meeting the marketing objectives and communicating with the target group.
Nominations
Successful nominations will not be announced until the Frontier Awards evening on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008.
