Concept: Royal Tokaji Mézes Mály 2003 Great 1st Growth, 6 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszu comes from a vineyard of 19 hectares in the village of Tarcal. The name Mézes Mály literally translates as ‘honeycomb’ due to the loess top-soil of the vineyard which gives a honey-like, floral character to the wine in most vintages. It is one of the two First Growth Tokaji wines and will only be made in exceptional vintages and perfect climatic conditions for botrytis. A medium old gold colour, tasting notes describe the wine as very rounded, beautifully balanced and elegant, creating apricot bomb on the nose with hints of plums, quince and exotic fruits. One can also smell the dust of loess on the nose. Aged for three and a half years in used Hungarian oak barrels and then in bottles (prior to release) for 36 months, total production is 1800 bottles.
